Embassies/High Commissions/Consulates
The primary function of any Nigeria Embassy/High Commission or Consulate as the case may be is to service the interests of the Nigerian government. This normally carries along with it the auxiliary function of serving the interests of Nigerian citizens.
Some of the services rendered by Embassies/High Commission/Consulates include
? Conduct of Nigeria?s Foreign Policy and International Relations.
? Consular Matters including the protection of the interests of Nigerians abroad.
? Relations with Diplomatic Corps in Nigeria.
? Pilgrimage Arrangements.
? Technical Assistance to Foreign countries.
? Repatriation of destitute Nigerians.
? Issuance of Passports, Travel Certificates and Seamen identity cards in Missions abroad.
? Responsibility over Diplomatic privileges and Immunities.
? Responsibility for signing of Cultural Agreements, and furnishing missions with daily news summary.
Generally every Nigerian that travels outside of the country ought to inform the embassy of their entry/stay in the foreign country. Whether this is done or not it is part of the responsibilities of the Embassies/High Commission/Consulates to protect the interest of Nigeria and her citizens abroad and as well as attend to foreigners with interest in Nigeria. How well are they doing these and how can we improve on what currently obtains? Your comments will help make the needed improvement
